Southern African bloc calls for recount of Congo’s contested election

DAKAR (Reuters) – The Southern African Development Community (SADC) suggested on Sunday that Democratic Republic of Congo recount votes from a contested Dec. 30 presidential election that the runner-up says was rigged and which has sparked isolated violence across the country.

“A recount would provide necessary reassurance to both winners and losers,” the SADC statement said.
